Can I freeze cheese? I've got about 2lbs or so of leftover, pre-sliced cheese from the party. There is NO way I will finish it before it gets all dry, crumbly and green and fuzzy. So can I freeze it and then thaw it and use it at a later date?
I believe so. I know you can freeze butter (the real stuff, never tried with margarine or spreads).
It might change the texture, but it should still be edible.
I freeze shredded cheese all the time. Should be fine.
Same as Sonia - I freeze shredded cheese ALL the time.
Yes--it might not be great on crackers afterwards (but may be, if you seal it well)--maybe more suitable for grilled cheese or used in a casserole or something similar. I was watching Alton Brown last night and he mixed about 1 lb cheses, 2 tbsp butter, and parlsey in a food processor for 2 minutes to make cheese spread. It looked delicious!
I've frozen cheese before and didn't choke on it when I ate the thawed version....
