  • Does anyone else find it humorous stupid ironic that the same year that Americans have elected a VERY liberal man into the White House, that all three states that had some sort of ballot measure to define "marriage" as being between one man and one woman passed that measure? (AZ, CA and FL)

  • Have Americans ever made sense??

  • @LetMeGoToo -

Sadly, no. I just find this one particularly offensive. But perhaps it is my own baggage as out here in AZ, the ads for the ballot measure of defining marriage (while the measure itself was simply defining it as between one man and one woman and saying nothing else) were all EXTREMELY awful to me as they implied that to have "family" you had to be married, have kids and be the "typical" family of one daddy, one mommy and a whole screaming junkpile of kids. Implying that somehow my family/marriage that consists of my husband and I is somehow WRONG because we don't plan to reproduce is a screaming good way to piss me off.

  • When the hell did you become so conservative??? Obama is hardly "VERY liberal". Well, I suppose when you compare him with most of the extremely conservative politicians, yes, he is liberal. But, is that really a BAD thing?

  • @GoForCo -

I don't find Obama being liberal in and of itself a bad thing. I don't like much of Obama but what I do like are his more liberal policies towards abortion and whatnot. I am mostly referring to the irony inherent in having a liberal president (and how is he not very liberal btw?) and having these very conservative policies of "marriage".

  • Obama SEEMS very liberal (compared to the opposition) but yeah, he's more moderate than the extreme liberals. Still, that's not the point of your blog. And yeah, I agree. I'm soooooooooo saddened and disappointed that gay marriage doesn't pass. WHY???? WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY?

  • I agree with KameraSutra that he is a more moderate liberal, meaning that yes, he is liberal, I just didn't think it warranted a "VERY" in front of it. *shrug* I do think it is VERY sad, however, that this country can't get the religious sticks out of their assess and give EVERYONE equal rights. My mom and I were talking about this today while she was over for a bit. She said that she agrees that a marriage should only be between a man and a woman, but then said that she also believes that gay partners should be given the right to each other's benefits, legal right to sign papers/make decisions, tax credits, etc. *scratches head* "According to the government, isn't that what a legal marriage affords you?" She didn't really have a reply. If only Mom could get over her religion.

P.S. Having packing come out of my nose was HORRIFIC! But, I feel a little bit better.

  • Actually, deep down, Barack is very liberal, but he knows how to temper his own with what can realistically get done. (I've been reading his books).

CNN stated that it was the massive turnout that actually defeated the gay marriage thing--the black vote was all for Barack, but they're also very evangelistic at heart in their own liberal way, and in effect, passed that bill. I said elsewhere that it's funny cuz the bill does not wipe  out the existing gay marriages, so some 16000 remain.
