Month: July 2007

  • Today we transported the five puppies to Tucson and brought back another cattle dog to be adopted here in the Phoenix area. Somedays, even when it’s hard work and you don’t get much sleep – the fact that some doggie is now in a happy forever home because of something you helped with, it’s totally worthwhile.

Of course, that day would be even better if it were the day that our foster doggie found a forever home. He’s driving me batty. We did our first obedience class with him this morning and he will be all right, I think. Primarily, he just doesn’t give a shit about doing what I want him to do. It doesn’t appear to be about dominance – it seems to be more related to sheer and utter stubborness. Or perhaps obliviousness? Anyway you look at it, he’s much harder to train than Indiana was.

Kimberly was here for two weeks and he loved her. I think he misses her.
She also got a nasty MRSA infected abcess in her neck that has caused me to need to throw away a pillow, pillowcase and probably an entire set of sheets – just in case.

I also had to discard my mascara because she used one and I decided to be on the safe side to just discard all three that I had.

So then I, who is not a girly girl, decided to make-up shop at Target (to keep it safely priced!). I purchased one blue mascara (I love it blue, I don’t know why), one brown mascara, a brown, extra-thick eye liner, green eyeshadow and one 16-hour pink lip color.

This brings my makeup total to the most ever. EVER!
2 mascaras, 3 eyeliners (which I’m still learning how to use), 8 different eyeshadow colors, 2 different lip colors, 1 blush, one set of mineral makeup including mineral veil and “warmth” as well as 6 different bases in four different colors (I got tan here in AZ which was a bitch, let me tell you.)

I think I may be a real girl.

  • I am in a little bit of trouble.
We’re doing a doggie transport on Saturday – 5 pups to Tucson and one dog back.

We will have the pups from about 0815 until about 1100.

    LOOK AT THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Yay for more puppy pictures! Primarily because I have NOTHING to say it has been a blergh week and weekend in terms of me thinking of stuff to write about.

His poor little nose is all raw. Keeps getting worse too. I think it is from him rubbing it in the grass so often.

Here is his pensive pose. He is looking all serious and grown-up. Of course, right after this, I think he ran into the wall. He’s also making sure that Indiana isn’t going to get his grubby paws on his chewy toy (even though it really is Indiana’s toy).

Here Wyatt is destroying one of the fleece toys that I made for him. I’m learning how to make them a little better each time and I have more instructions now on alternate ways. Even if he destroys them in a day – they’re so much cheaper when I make them than if I buy them pre-made.

    He looks possessed doesn’t he?

I love the tongue. I do wish my digital was faster though…of course, then I’d just have more pictures.

  • Wow. I’m a slacker with the posting.

    Let’s see…
Foster doggie is greatly improved. We’re about 90% potty trained, he’s even rung the bells to go out and go potty.

Kimberly is visiting from Indiana until July 24th. I wish I didn’t have to work but, I gave up all my vacation time when I switched jobs. So far, the best thing we’ve done is haircuts and mall shopping. We did do volunteer stuff on Saturday – the rescue I work with (and foster for) had an event at a giant mall. We got lots of exposure and I believe we’ve had 5 or 6 applications for dogs because of the event. Sadly, no one yet has applied for our doggie. But, someone will because he is someone’s perfect doggie. We also went to the Southwest Museum.

This weekend we’re shooting for the Art Museum, the Mineral Museum and wall-climbing. And maybe Salt River tubing. This maybe a bit too ambitious, especially given Kimberly’s fondness for sleeping in, but hey, why not?

It’s been hot and miserable here – 110+F with 20% humidity. It actually sprinkled the other night. I’ve rigged the sprinkler system to go off everyday to try to keep the grass alive – as well as to go off when the dogs are outside and can play in the sprinkler. They like the water and it gets them all wound up to cool off, I think.

Work is acceptable though sometimes frustrating.

Diet/exercise isn’t the greatest – foster dog and Kimberly have cut into my exercise especially. I’m trying to watch the food intake, but I am still an emotional eater. And, I’ve been having grande chai lattes at work. Yum. But yuck on the diet – too much freakin’ shugah.

  • Things have improved with the foster doggie quite a bit.

We have some video of him if you’d like to see him in action.

He’s playing in the baby pool in my backyard.

    He LOVES to get wet.

  • I thought that our first foster doggie was supposed to be an easy one.

    Not so much.
    At least in some ways.

He *Wyatt* had never been in a house before and had clearly been scarred, physically, both by cat and dog bites/scratches.

He’s very possessive and doesn’t like to share and he has a very, very nasty bark and snarl. He is fear-aggressive towards Indiana and is also possession-aggressive when Indiana has something he wants.

They are, as yet, being fed entirely separately to prevent some nasty fights but there have still been some very nasty spats. No blood and no real biting, but plenty of snapping, growling and posturing.

I just wish they’d get the dominance fight over with and get on with being doggies.

There have at least been some good playtimes outside.

The poor kitties though, we’ve decided to completely confine them to one room – especially given Wyatt’s unpredictableness inside the house as well as the really nasty scars on his nose that are clearly from a pissed off cat.

I’m sure they’re missing the free reign of the house, but I’d rather have them confined than have to deal with blood.
