  • **I'm putting my edit at the top.

    My new toy is here!

Finally, the UPS man brought something that is for ME! And not for
whoever used to live here. And I think today was also the first day
that the UPS man has seen me in clothes, as the other two times I
answered the door in my pjs**

Finally I hear back from the paternity lab. 24 hours after I emailed
the gentleman who owns the lab. A negative response, of course, but at
least a response. I want to email him back and tell him that calling
and telling people they didn't get the job really is standard and is
considered polite. But I doubt it was his fault...so I will supress
    that urge.

I got the updated information about my "Forensic Services Laboratory
Technician" position that I will be interviewing for on Tuesday. The
bad news is: all DNA is sent out for sequencing, no in-house
facilities. The good news: this now a "civilian" position, which I
think means no gun toting. Other bad news: I have to take a short
written exam when I first get to the interview but I have no idea what
it is going to cover as this position is one that requires extensive
training. And this job requires on call hours. Other good news:
starting pay is good. Very good. As in, better than I really ever
    expected to make.

Anyone ever take a test at an interview? I have no clue what they're
going to test me on. Job requirements are chemical lab safety (which is
really dependent on labels which anyone can read and on the specific
lab regulations), knowledge of basic lab techniques and equipment as
well as computer experience...but how the hell do you test such things?

    Ah well
I'm going to the grocery store (again) as I don't have anything else to do and I'm out of salad.

But really, I want some head pettings and snuggles (not from kitties)
but hubby has to work and then he has his first class - so he won't be
    home until late.

    Pah.
    I'm so buying a coke.

  • Oh! I love the bird in your profile pic! (I love bird photography.)

Well bummer about the one job, but COOL at this upcoming interview. And yes, I've had to take tests for jobs. In my profession, it is typically an editing test. I guess, to make sure that YES, I can really edit... Anyway, that's fairly standard in my field. I can imagine other fields take tests, as well.

  • testing ... could just be a skills or aptitude kind of test to see if you'll fit in?  I dunno... all I ever had to test was typing skills.

  • I think certain state lab jobs have testing, in any case best of luck

  • I have taken tests at an interview before, but dang, it was at a fast-food joint when I was 17?  It's probably a basic skills test, so I wouln't worry too much.  Good luck!

And get the Pepsi One, man.  They rock.

  • I want your toy. (Dirty!) How much did it set you back? I've been looking for a good scale to weigh ingredients for bread.

Sorry to hear you didn't get the paternity lab job, but I know you'll end up somewhere good soon. So many opportunities in your field in Phoenix!

  • Yes that's a sweet bird. UPS dude is pissed now.
