Month: April 2006

  • I just finished this.

Now I’m going to do this one.

    Why am I anticipatory?
    Maybe a job.
A job that matches what I did. A lot. Contract work at ASU – hopefully
on Monday I will find out the details from Aerotek and get an interview.

And doubly good is the fact that my advisor, the one who won’t write me
a decent letter of recommendation for getting into a PhD program, he
actually gave me a good reference when called by Aerotek.

I think if I get this job, I’m so sending the lady at Aerotek a card.
Maybe some flowers. Chocolate? I don’t know. I don’t want it to look
like I’m coming onto her or anything but I certainly want to get across
the point that I am damn grateful as she has been wonderful.

  • Quietly excited and full of potentially good anticipation.

  • How sad is that right now I’m waiting for it to be 10am so that the
library will be open and I can bike there and check out some new books
(and get some amount of exercise on the way)?

I suppose it’s better than just having pizza and coke…wait, that’s what I had for breakfast…damn.

    This weekend was lazy. LAAAAA-Zy.

We didn’t wall-climb or go for a bike ride. We did fix our bike tires -
amazingly enough I am bright enough to change an inner tube on a bike.
I do, however, seem to lack the hand strength to get the stupid tire
    back on the rim.

We are planning to do more planning. We’ve been doing lots of flying by
the seat of our pants kind of deals lately. So, today, in addition to
the library, I will be working on a list of meals for the week (and
guaranteeing that we have the necessary supplies) as well as starting a
new chore list. I’ve been putting that off in the hopes of getting a
job. When I get a job, the chore list will have to change, I’m sure. I
suppose it will just be a temporary list.

  • ***Another edit***
Yes. I’m too lazy to type a whole new entry.

But now I’m just so beyond irritated it isn’t even funny.
    I got the mail.
And, as expected, there was the news about the forensics position
(which I didn’t get, though that is secondary to my irritation).

Not only could the HR lady have told me that when I emailed her two
days ago, she put the whole thing in the wrong name. My maiden name.
And why, does this irritate me?

Perhaps because I have already corrected her about this problem at least once, if not more.
Is it so hard to get my name correct?
    Grrrrr.

I should know better by now than to look at homeless puppies and kitties.

    But I do it anyway.

And I’m in love with this one.

Awaiting the mail – the real mail that is – to let me know if I got the forensics job or not.
Upon emailing the HR lady, I was informed that the letters were mailed
and should arrive sometime Friday. Not much of an answer, at least not
    in my book.

    Weekend plans?

Climb on Saturday. A bike ride on Sunday – this one to see outdoor art
displays in a part of the city a bit north of us. And also, going out
with my relatives that live here. I hate to base all events and
interactions around food, but I don’t really know what else to base
them around. Dunno – perhaps they hike or bike. I can’t really see
either one of them wall-climbing.  I know they bowl – but I don’t
    do so well with bowling.

  • Friday’s interview went.
Again, I don’t know how well.
Especially since I probably won’t hear back from them for two weeks.
And the job won’t start until July 6th.

Saturday yielded the finding of a punctured bike tube which put a
serious crimp in our plans to bike to the library. So we drove and got
library cards and delicious new books. That at least takes some of the
edge of boredom off. We also had delicious Chinese food and a
gratiutously long shopping session at a very overcrowded Walmart.

Sunday was a trip to the very large Phoenix zoo. Lots of walking. Very
good zoo. Hubby got a bit of a sunburn. The post-zoo ice cream hunt was
terrible – who knew ice cream places closed for Easter Sunday? Does
jesus not like ice cream? So we settled for going to the grocery and
picking up some pints. I still have some – Godiva’s Chocolate Raspberry
Truffle. Hubby’s Butter Pecan only survived one incursion.

    This week?

    Waiting.
I have made contact with a temp agency that specializes in science
jobs. Sooooo…I guess that’s what I will have to do if these other two
jobs don’t work out. Careerbuilder and monster and their ilk are not
currently yielding up any good jobs on my altar of sacrifice. Maybe I
need to find something better to give them besides curse words and the
    occasional browsing…

    ***Edit***

    This amuses me.

  • TWEAKED OFF!

Missing: My copy of Singing in the Rain.

    ARRRRRGH.
    Where is my movie!!

  • So I’m thinking I want a haircut.
This long messy cut is doing nothing for me and it’s just HOT.
Life in a ponytail or a bun is not a good time.

    So.
    Any suggestions?
I don’t want to have a haircut that exaggerates my double chin. Or makes me look too mannish. Or that requires too much work.

Not that I’m at all picky or choosey. And maybe a new hair color. Nice dark nutty brown?

    EDITED TO ADD:

I think I kind of like this hair. The one on Julia Stiles, not the fat old man behind her. (Same hair, different shot)

  • Well.
    That was an interview.

I have no idea how it went.

I got there about 10 minutes early and checked in at the front desk. I
was given the “test” (note the use of quotation marks here because it
wasn’t really much of a test, more of a “how well do you remember high
school chemistry”) and I had half an hour to do it. It took me about 5
minutes, including going over it twice and trying to make sure that the
essay questions (about why I wanted this job and the like) were
    grammatically correct.

Then I sat in the lobby and waited. For about 45 minutes. I hate
waiting. But, I was patient and good and read a magazine and tried to
    not tap my feet.

Finally, my turn. And it’s a committee of women. Four of them. All
about mid-thirties or so, all very professional and all very bored with
having to do this all day (the lady before me was seriously in there
forever, I juts wonder if she talked THAT much, or if my answers were
way freaking short). They asked me 12 questions (all pre-planned) and
they asked everyone else the same 12 questions.

I think I was in there about 25 or 30 minutes at most. So I’m seriously
paranoid now. Especially since there was no mention at all of
polygraphing. I don’t know if that’s required ONLY if you are the
person that they decide they want or if that was their subtle way of
    telling me the interview sucked.

Positives: there are TWO unfilled positions that are being filled by
this interview, not one – which doubles my chances of getting the job.
There are also no on-call hours required and no weekend hours required.

Negatives: Now I really want the job – as they do in house DNA work and
that’s really where my interest lies. And I am now crazy paranoid that
I simply didn’t answer well or that I simply look way too young. Damn
    looking 12 and being short!

  • I want this dress.

Perhaps upon employment I shall get a present.
