  • I’m waiting to leave work and to pass the time, I thought I’d write my daily post.

I’m happily EXTREMELY chicken pox positive. Go for my freakin’ AWESOME immune system!

I had my second TB test. That will get read Thursday – and that should just about complete the health stuff for applying to school.

This morning’s run on the treadmill went poorly due to some poor dietary choices the day before – suffice to say that runner’s trots are really real — and really suck. Aborted after 3 miles instead of the targeted 4 miles. This puts me a week off on my training schedule – which really isn’t a big deal. I just wish I had more co-operative, less sand-blasted bowels.

  • *phew* Is July over yet? It’s not so much the having to write everyday that’s getting to me – it’s the having to try to  be interesting everyday! That, and it’s monsoon season here in AZ. And monsoon season means HOOOOOOOT! It’s supposed to 111 today. Yeah. Bootcamp is FUN when it’s about 90 and humid at 0530. Blech. And while my own sweat tastes delicious, like pride, pain and glory, I don’t really like it when it makes my eyes all crunchy around the edges though and it  hurts when I rub it off into my poor little eyes. *whine*

I am now counting down the days until Labor Day. I really find that this year I am just living for vacation. I think sometime soon I need to take a vacation that doens’t involve me going anywhere or doing anything – just sitting on my behind and chillin’, yo. Not anytime soon though! Labor Day weekend bodes to be fairly exciting though – I’m looking at booking a flight to Maine to visit my friend Amy. Not only have I never been to Maine, I have the extra excitement of her new baby (which she should be giving birth to as I type – or perhaps she’s already squeezed it out and is now sleeping. I’m waiting for pics and a phone call) and hopefully of hiking and/or running on the beach. It will be a good time to NOT be in AZ. Seriously, I am going to grow up and be a snow bird, I swear.

I get my second TB test tomorrow and hopefully finally get the results of my chicken pox titer – I’m really hoping for antibodies (the stupid booster shots, of which I would have to get two, run $100). I am proceeding nicely on the applying for school program though. I really have to admit that I’m going to be peeved if I do NOT get accepted given how much money I’ve paid to just get myself able to apply (about $300 so far) and I’m not even fully done with the application materials yet! And if I do get in, I’ll still have to cough up for the drug screening. Yack. Oh well.

  • Whoops! I almost forgot! It’s 2030 in AZ though, so I can still squeeze this post in under the wire.

My day was nothing. I did nothing except eat and nap. I’m enjoying have a spare day off but tomorrow will be BUSY. Lots to do including my distance run. I do wish it were two months from now or so – so that then I could do some running outdoors. An hour on a treadmill is bloody bloody BORING.

I did have my weekly going out meal – we went out for Mexican food. Mmmmm. I love mexican. Not healthy, but I usually figure that ONE meal of utterly unhealthy food is not going to kill me.

I bought some lightly flavored water today at Sprout’s – one is a hint of mint and one is a hint of lime. The mint one is really tasty. The ingredients are: water and mint. So I like that it’s simple and made of real stuff – as opposed to chockful of scary chemicals that I can find in my lab. I also like that it tastes like you’ve recently brushed your teeth, which makes me NOT eat while drinking it. Tomorrow I am going to try the lime one – here’s hoping it’s just as good.

Now I’m off to give the hubby a back massage and a foot massage.

  • I am enjoying my three day weekend. Right now, if it were a normal Friday, I would have my lunch all packed and I’d be climbing into my car for 8 hours of toil in the lab. HA! Instead, I’m sitting here in my tie-dyed shirt and my cute little black VS panties and nothing else enjoying the day at home with the furries. Sadly, bootcamp does NOT take holidays so there was no sleeping in today though! I am anticipating the pleasure of a nap here relatively quickly.

Speaking of bootcamp – it was pretty rough this morning. I know she (the trainer) kicked it up a notch this morning because we’re half-way through this “Fat Blast” two week camp but I don’t think that was why it was rough. While I was doing my stupid jump squats I realized that at least one meal a day for the past four days, I have eaten poorly. And super poorly at that (cookies and freezer pizza anyone?). Clearly, 2 healthy, veggie-ridden meals a day is not enough. I need to eat well for basically all the meals. I am proud that I have managed to stay away from the soda – I passed the one month with no soda mark about a week ago and completely forgot about it. I’m even down to one glass of caffienated, artificially sweetened tea a day.  Otherwise, I am drinking water (usually 2 L a day) or Crystal Light (1/2 strength or less because if I drink full strength it makes me gag on the super-over the top sweetness).

I need to get a new wedding ring. Mine has gotten too big to be safe for much longer. I’m guessing it is anywhere from 1 size to 1.5 sizes too big. Given that I use my hands a lot and I wash my hands a lot for work, I’m afraid of losing it. Not that it’s a big monetary thing ($55 on sale ring! I loooooove sales!) but it’s a big personal attachment kind of thing. So, rather than lose something I’m really attached to, I am going to buy myself a titanium chain (since titanium actually holds up to my bizarre-ass body chemistry and doesn’t make me get ouchy or icky) and put my too big wedding band on the chain and wear it all the time. So – anyone have any artists/sites/ideas on good, simple wedding bands in the less than $200 range that will hold up to latex, constant handwashing, gratuitous weight lifting and exercise, as well as housecleaning and all the pets? I need a ring I NEVER have to take off because, if I take it off, I will lose it. I am…absentminded I guess you could say when it comes to such things.

  • Woodchoppers from bootcamp = sore back and hamstrings.

Fartlek – ran that this morning. I love the name. Fartlek, fartlek, fartlek! I don’t understand why they call it that when as far as I can tell, it’s only interval training for running. Whatever. That is day two of week one of my half-marathon training. Cool beans!

I’m off work tomorrow but I have bootcamp in the morning. So I’ll be getting up at my normal pre-0500 time and doing all my normal stuff but, I will just get to either go back to bed at 0830 or watch a movie rather than going to work. That will be exciting. And I think I may squeeze in some housework on Friday so that I can squeeze in another gym visit on Saturday (I’m thinking core-training from hell, just for funsies.).

I am TB free according to my first skin test. But I have to do another one next week. Still no word on my varicella titer. I’m really hoping to have lots of antibodies, as I really don’t want to cough up $200 for friggin’ chicken pox vaccines….stupid rules!

  • Oh man! It’s day two and I’m already late – shit!

I’ve been awfully busy at work today and didn’t have time to post before work. I’m just now sitting at my desk for the first time today – and I’ve been in since 0800!! I’m awfully excited about tonight though – I’m going to have fro-yo at Mojo! I’ve never been before but I’m going to go pick up my friend Jade and we are going to have a date! I’m all excited about having frozen yogurt and fruit!

I think I’m going to have: Skinny Raspberry Fro Yo topped with strawberries, kiwi, blueberries and blackberries. I may add some sliced almonds or pistachios if I’m feeling fiesty. Doesn’t that sound AWESOME? And 1/2c of this fro-yo is only 70 calories and 0g fat! How awesome is that?

  • Since ponderous is doing it and so is atomblonde, I guess I can join in? Right? Right.

I missed Monday but I am going to try to blog every other day except yesterday (since I don’t have a time machine or anything…yet) until July 26th. We’ll see how long it takes until I’m superduper bored or boring…

Today I was up at 0356 to go to the gym. I just started training for my half-marathon. I am planning to run the Lost Dutchman Half-Marathon out in Apache Junction on February 14th, 2010. Yeah, 2010. I have 7 months or so to train for it, which is likely overkill but as it’s an outdoor trail running kind of deal with hills and cold temperatures, I prefer to be OVER ready rather than UNDER prepared like I was for the 5k mentioned below. I ran 3.5 miles today at my maintenance pace (which, right now, is 6.0mph or a 31 minute 5k). That’s how fast I run when I’m not in a hurry and when I’m not doing a long run.

I’m planning to run on Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. Tuesdays will be the maintenance run, Thursdays the fartlek (which I have to figure out how to do safely on a treadmill) and Sundays will be my long run. Monday, Wednesday and Friday I have bootcamp most of the time – except during our occasional breaks. I am in bootcamp until November when I will be discontinuing my bootcamp subscription, with the hope of getting into the CLS program at Phoenix College. That will be 15 months of a very busy Kelly, indeed! I will still be running 3 days a week though and strength training/circuit training 3 days a week. That leaves me with Saturdays as a free day – I suppose I might go to the gym on some of those days and cross train but mostly, I do yardwork and housework and count that as my mild exercise for the day.

I guess I had a little more to say today than I thought. I also got poked for a varicella titer and a TB test. My arm hurts on the arm where the did the TB test, so I’m off to google to see if that is normal….

Me getting my medal for 1st place in my division (women ages 20 to 29). I was a bit surprised that a 33:59 was the first place finisher in that category but hey, I like recognition! So I still have my medal sitting on my desk here.

  • I’ve been back home from Indiana for nearly a week. And just now find the gumption to post. I’m a slacker but that’s okay. Bored at work leads one to actually make blog posts, eh?

    So…

    let’s review Indiana.

I got in on Wednesday – it was raining. I ran 4.2 miles with Karen. Luckily it was only humid as all crap by the time we started running. Went to bed early to get up to do mini-bootcamp – but it was POURING. So I went back to sleep until the rain stopped then did some working out (which is dull, dull, dull alone!). Went to the running store with Karen, Colleen and Kristy and got everyone new shoes except me. I got socks though.

Friday we tie-dyed – by we I mean –  me, Karen, Kristy, Kimberly, Darcy, Sloane and Nolan. Fun but MESSY. And that shit doesn’t wash off easily. I hope Darcy’s knees are finally done with being green now.

Saturday was the 5k with Karen and Wendy. It was wet, muddy and humid. Lots of mosquitos!! There were about 200 people in the race. I came in 63rd overall with my sucktastic time of 33:59 (slowest 5k race I’ve ever run!) and still managed to come in first in my age/sex division. I was a bit shocked to receive a medal for that time but hey, I’ll take it! After the 5k was the open house and I won’t even try to list all the people who came because there were A LOT.

Sunday I spent the night at Colleen’s and then we worked out together at the gym on Monday.

And then on Tuesday I left to come back to AZ.

In between all of this was a lot of rain and a whole lotta meatballs.

    And some Jimmy John’s.

    Good times.
