  • Countdown to first belly dancing class is T-5 hours and 45 minutes.

    I'm becoming REALLY friggin' nervous.

    I can't dance.

    I never dance.

There will be new people there. Who probably all know each other, know how to dance and are prettier and thinner than me and will all have awesome belly dancing outfits with pretty jingling belts and shiny bras....

    *having a minor panic attack!*

  • don't worry about it.

I'm one of those people who grew up dancing.  ballet, tap,  club music, whatever.

And I have to tell you that I felt like an uncoordinated fool the first few belly dance classes.  It's a completely different way of moving your torso and it will probably take some getting used to.

I found it helped immensely to visualize each muscle group the instructor was talking about doing the movement.

If done correctly, it is an AWESOME workout.

  • @Wild_Tigger_Kitty -

Well, I did feel like an uncoordinated fool
But so did everyone else. And even though there were plenty of jingly shiney belts, no one was mean or laughed at me.
My lower abs hurt right now though!

  • That means you did it  right.

Some of the best belly dancing sessions I've had I haven't felt until the next day when I reached over and then felt the tightness across my abdomen.

When I'm dancing regularly (& by that I mean 1 long class each week & then doing something else aerobic), I can lose 2 pants sizes with how much my torso changes shape.
