  • Weight Watchers – Week 10

    Down 0.8lbs.

My total according to WWs – 22.8lbs.
I like my home scale better, as my total there is 25.2lbs lost and only 22.6lbs to go.

That means I’m more than half done.
Well, half done to get to my initial, self-re-evaluation weight.

I’m still unsure what weight I want to be at when I start the lifelong maintenance phase of WWs. I know if I set it too low that I will find it impossible to maintain. But if it is too high, I fear slacking off and poor eating habits may lead to a relapse in weight or else health issues. 145lbs puts me at a BMI of 27 as well and the cut off for “healthy” weight is 25. I wish I could get another DEXA scan or something similar and get my body fat percentage when I reach that point and THEN decide if I want to lose more body fat.

  • Officially finished

My nutrition teacher just posted our grades for our final project (paper with 5 sections – mine was about 12 pages).

    Final grade: 903/905

There are some advantages to taking an introductory level course at a community college with a master’s degree level education.

I only wish I’d taken this damn nutrition class YEARS ago. I know that it is part of the reason that I have managed to remain motivated on my Weight Watchers diet and I’m nervous now that I don’t have that pressure leaning over me. I am registered for another class through the same community college (Mesa Community College – it’s pretty cool what with the online classes they offer and the freakin’ low ass rates) but it doens’t start until Fall of 2008. That will be weight management. I’m hoping that it will coincide with me reaching my goal weight and will help me with my maintenance of my healthy weight.

  • Guiding Principles

I live my life or try to by four guidelines or principles or whatever you want to call them. It is how I view the world to some extent – an amalgamation of these four principles. These are how I make my decisions, how I try to react to events in my life and how I try to respond in any given situation.

1.) Choice – to choose – which is to select freely and after consideration
2.) Consequences – something produced by a cause or necessarily following from a set of conditions
3.) Respect – high or special regard for or to something
4.) Responsibility – moral, legal, or mental accountability

For example: I gained more than a bit of weight over the past two or three years.

First – I choose to diet. I chose to respond to my weight gain by proactively attending Weight Watchers to help me have accountability for my diet and going to the gym at least three times a week – incorporating cardio and weight lifting as well. I also try to take more walks, do more yard work and be more general active at work. These are CHOICES. They aren’t easy but I try to make them every day.

Second – I accept that the above choices have consequences. I’m losing weight (and pant sizes) which is good but there are other consequences. I can’t go out to eat or drink socially or any of the many things that people like to do on a typical evening. There is a happy hour this week at work, but the consequences of my choices above are that I can’t really participate in the eating/drinking. I can go – but I’m limited in what I can do. I am also dealing with the consequences of choosing to go to the gym – I have to get up at about 430am to get to the gym and still do everything else that I have to do during a regular day.

Third – I respect myself and my body enough to want to do this. I also respect my husband enough to want to be healthy and fit so that we can be together longer. I respect my choices as well as those of the people around me – even when I don’t understand them (this is the hardest part for me!). Just because I don’t understand the choice – doesn’t mean it isn’t the right choice for the other person.

Fourth – I am responsible to myself, my family and my pets. I need to live as long at a high a health level as possible. No one else is responsible for making these choices and decisions for me. No one can make me eat healthy except me. No one can make me go to the gym except me (unless I join the military!). I accept the responsibility for my health, my weight and my own choices.

Do you have guiding priciples like these? How important are they to you?

Mine are really very important to me. They are in many ways how I define myself and my success at being a person of worth.

My final goal when I reach my weight loss goal and maintain it for a certain period of time (probably 6 months or so) – I am going to have them tattooed unto my back. I think I am going to do it in Chinese characters since they look cooler and make it more personal. No one would then know what they meant without asking me about them. Also, I work with some very nice Chinese ladies who can verify for me that the characters actually say what I want them to! I don’t really want the tattoo artist to play a humorous (to them) trick on me and me be all walking around with a back tattoo that says “Look at my fat ass!”

  • And today I

Ate too many meringues. Mini chocolate meringues from Trader Joe’s. They taste like hot chocolate mix powder. MMMMMM. 2 points for 13 cookies.

    Today’s food thus far:

6 strawberries with splenda (0 pts)
1 egg sammich with ham, egg and LC cheese (4 pts)
Creamed curried shrimp with peas, potatoes and rice (5 pts)
    1/2c. Mixed veggies (1 pt)
6-oz fruit cup from TJs (strawberries, blueberries and raspberries) (1 pt)
13 mini meringue cookies from TJs (2 pts)
3/4lb of veggie and 2T dip (1 pt)

    Total thus far: 14 pts
    Leaving: 10 pts

I did not, however, make it to the gym today or on Tuesday. And though I did take a walk both days with my WW buddy here at work, I don’t really think it merits any exercise effort on my part. I’m just so pooped in the mornings lately that I find it hard to get up and moving before 545 or so. Send me some good vibes at 430 (that’s 730am for you East Coasters) so that I can maybe get up and moving and get to the gym before work. I gotta work out and stuff.

Ow. My tongue hurts from all the meringues though. But I still want to eat more, more, more!

  • Weight Watchers Week 9

According to the Weight Watchers scale, I am now 170.8lbs. (Yes, this is heavier than my previous entry, but this weight includes clothes and is on the public scale while the 169.8lbs is at my home, nekkid, after my morning bowel movement and before I eat anything.)

This brings my total weight loss to 22lbs and I am now officially 10% lighter than I was.

    SO….
I got a keychain (copper and in the shape of the number 10).
And now, I am aiming towards my new goal (145). Which is less than 30lbs away. Cool.

I did already purchase my 20lbs reward – a Polar F6 heart rate monitor.

I love it, but it makes me work way harder. And tracks all kinds of stuff for me. I think my next goal (which is 8lbs from now – so probably a month or so away) will be spa day – facial, eyebrow wax and maybe some highlights…

    Edited:

It was week 9. So that is fixed. And, here is my graph! In pink!
