Month: April 2006

  • Hangin’ out.

The weekend was good. Very good. We skipped the DMV on Saturday – no
mail in hubby’s name so we decided it would be easier and more
efficient to just sleep in. And it was – and delicious too. There was
basically a whole lot of no work done on Saturday, at least on my part.
We did go to Arizona Mills
which, for those of you who love to shop, is a bit on the crazy side.
I’m amazed at the number of shoe stores and outlets located within -
and the IMAX. “The Human Body” is coming to that IMAX at some point
this month, we might have to swing on out to that.

We didn’t find the IKEA we were looking for. According to the maps we
checked when we got home, we drove past it twice. And never saw it.
IKEA’s are huge – my only thought is that it is set much further back
into some sort of shopping center than we thought to look. Ah well, my
desk chair will just have to wait. For now, I do have some pics of
our new place. They’re unlabelled but you get the idea. Sadly, no
pictures contain evidence of my wonderous walk in (or my husband’s, as
    he has his own).

We went out for coal-fired brick oven pizza before going to see Corteo
(by Cirque du Soleil). I am never endingly impressed by Cirque. They
consistently astound and delight. This one was much much funnier than
the previous one that we saw but no less impressive. And it had two of
the most impressive midgets (little people?) that I’ve ever seen. And
    the best whistler ever.

Yesterday was Stomp, which was delightful. We were way up in the
nosebleed section – which is not unexpected as we bought the tickets
the day before the show. I’d never seen Stomp before and I was
impressed. Very captivating and I am amazed that the group (there were
8 in this show) can be that active for two straight hours. I was also
amazed that with two hours of that intense of physical activity – there
was still a pot-bellied cast member. He also had a ‘fro and was the
clown of the group. He was certainly entertaining.

Today? Not a whole lot of much. I’m hoping to get a postive call from
my paternity lab interview. I washed dishes…I need to go to yet
another store to continue the great Aunt Millie’s’ bread hunt. Going to
    deposit hubby’s check…
    er.

Maybe pull my bike out and see just how much damage was done on the
move and get that in clean shape for the weekend. We’re going on a bike
ride on the West side of Phoenix – a 6 or 12 mile ride which we can
handle – unlike the normal ones around here which are 25 or 50 mile
rides. I am no where near in that kind of shape. And damn….50 miles?
Seems like your ass would hurt. A lot.

Otherwise, we plan to go here this coming weekend. I am hoping to use it to replace actual strength training in a gym. We’ll see.

  • Goods and bads.

No call from the paternity lab – so I didn’t (yet) not get the job but
I also didn’t (yet) get the job. I will have to wait through Monday to
    find out.

Nearly had a heart attack when trying to sort out an interview time for
the forensics position – the recruiter said that since she hadn’t heard
back from me (rather rudely I might add) she was going to go ahead and
remove me from the interview selection process (I had replied to her
twice and she had replied to one of my replies). My terribly concerned
email back (less than two minutes after she sent me this email) caused
her to call me full of all kinds of apologies. Turns out, the two reply
emails showed up under my maiden name (which I apparently hadn’t
changed in my g-mail account – and I now have) so she didn’t associated
them with my married name. And also, could I drop off my unofficial
transcripts? *sigh* That was a potential disaster averted. It doesn’t
really reassure me about working for the city government though. They
do, however, have very good benefits – but shitty hours. Good pay, but
a LOT of work. And oye, I think I will have to carry a gun…

Other news? In addition to going to see Cirque du Soleil’s Corteo
tonight, we’re also going to go see Stomp tomorrow. We’re really going
to have to watch our entertainment budget. Back in Indiana, most of our
“entertainment” money went to food and/or movies. Now that we have
oodles of things to do (5th largest city in the US, anyone?), we are
going to probably severely limit eating out and have lots and lots of
    shows instead.

Perhaps the next shows will be a little cheaper and low key though…
Phoenix Theatre is having a showing of “Best Little Whorehouse in
Texas” and someone is doing a Sherlock Holmes play next weekend…
