HuFu
Human Flavored Tofu
It was on The Daily Show last night.
For those anthropologists who just want to “try” cannibalism.
Before I die, I want to:
~Ride in a hot air balloon
~Sky dive
~Rock climb, up real rocks, not indoor man-built ones
~Skinny dip in the ocean
~Bike across the US and down the West Coast and maybe even up the East Coast
~Do some real camping that doesn’t involve indoor privies and Olympic sized swimming pools
~Get a real job that uses my actual degree
~Have savings. Real ones. Maybe even a 401k or something else fancy with letters in the name.
~Be out of debt. Damn credit cards.
~Play all of the Final Fantasy games (am I dork? yes, yes indeedy, but I want to do it anyway)
~Get my passport, so’s that I can travel to — Italy, Australia and assorted areas of South America.
~Own a car. Maybe not a new one, but one with less than 50000 miles on it. And actually pay the insurance!
~Puppy. Want one. A cute one with big, big feet and fuzzy fur.
~Own a home with my office in it painted green. It must be green. And I
think I want a yellow bathroom too. But that one’s debatable
~Hike the Grand Canyon
~Meet a famous person. Well, famous outside the realm of biology. Don’t really care who, but I want a picture of them with me.
~Catch up on all this damn cross-stitching.
~Learn to snorkel, and scuba, and ski, and windsurf.
~Swim with dolphins. (I bet they’re not as cute as they look. They’re probably bastards)
~Eat all kinds of strange things. Like shark. And turtle. And rattlesnake. Maybe some HuFu…
*that’s all I can think of right now, and it’s time for work…perhaps more will come to me at work.
Ohhhh! Sweet Kingdom of Loathing, how I missed you!
Thank goodness you are un-fucked!
I had a horrible dream last night that I had to kill my cats because
they had rabies and then they came back all zombie-fied with the rest
of the town….Horrible, horrible, horrible!
This weekend is Cirque du Soleil. I am excited.
Tomorrow I have a meeting at work at 8am and then I have to work at
11am. I don’t want to drive all the way back across town after the
meeting, so I think I’m going to take a book and have dinner at the
greek-delicious-pancake-breakfast house across the street and then
maybe (depending on weather) go for another stroll in the park across
the other street from work. They have a very nice multi-use path that’s
about a 3 mile jaunt. This weather has been very encouraging for me to
actually go outside and DO something.
This weekend I went to my parents for a smelt fry. We also had french
fries, mashed potato smiley faces and chicken nuggets (home made and
very tasty). Then there was hot tub time and playing of Apples to
Apples (good game, worth checking out, especially if you have a big
family that likes to make noise).
On Saturday we went to see a playing of a restored version of the old
silent Phantom of the Opera film in downtown Fort Wayne at the restored
Embassy Theatre, complete with actual theatre organ accompaniment of
the orignal score from the film. I had forgotten how creepy the
original Phantom actually was.
Sunday we stained chairs and then sealed some of them, in preparation
for polyurethane. Then we shall have a gloriously shiny, woody set of 8
chairs and a big butcher block type dining room table. We also did yard
work – leaves needed to be raked and sidewalks swept. All kinds of
stuff just getting ready for winter time.
Today, I went to work and then left early. My bowels and my belly are
very unhappy and ouchy and rumbly. I decided home was a better place in
which they could rumble.
What did you do this weekend?
Okay, does anybody really actually ENJOY doing
finances/budgeting/paying bills? Because, if so, I will pay you in
chores and cookies to do mine.
And I make good cookies.
I need to change my sheets – I am very glad that I have enough sheets
that I don’t have to wash them every week when I change them. Though,
having shifted from a full to a queen-sized bed, I am down to probably
only about 8 or 9 sets.
Busy weekend ahead. Seems like they never get LESS busy. But we have
got to get yard stuff done before winter hits as well as actually
weather stripping windows and doors. This is Indiana after all and
winter is going to be COLD. Currently the heat is set to 62 degrees -
outside it is about 50 and rainy and just BLERGH. Arizona will at least
have sunshine, if it will be lacking the beautimus fall foliage.
I don’t really have any complete thoughts right now.
Do you prefer mayo, Miracle Whip or neither? I like Miracle Whip Light,
except on my turkey subs, then I like light mayo. Got flowers for my
anniversary. Need to rake the yard. And go grocery shopping. The house
is mostly clean and hopefully will remain so. Just need to keep on top
of the chore list. Lots of home repair stuff left to do. Going to see
the Phantom of the Opera at the Embassy Theatre on Saturday. And I
think next weekend we’re going to go see Cirque du Soleil as well.
Friday will be an evening of smelt and french fries at my parents.
Possibly with some hot-tub time as well. I am now a Kingdom of Loathing
addict. I need more turns than 40 per day though! Got my hair cut and
highlighted on Tuesday….
Sometimes, people surprise you. I work in a fast-food environment and
most people don’t actually WANT to pay. They want their money, they
want their food free or as close to it as possible.
On Friday, a gentleman ordered a sandwich and forgot his wallet. He
said he’d be back to pay for it. We figured we’d just write off the
meal – chalk it up to better customer service and blah, blah, blah. He
came back one hour after he ate – drove 30 minutes home and 30 minutes
back and was late to work to pay for his meal at Subway.
Same day, lunch rush (which, if you’ve ever seen it in a busy Subway is
crazy, we had people lined up and going out the door). A lady tells me
that I shorted her $10 in change. I don’t have time to count the drawer
and see if it’s right. So again, in thoughts of better customer service
and so that I didn’t have to piss off the 12 people waiting to pay for
their sandwiches, I just give her the $10 and apologize. Two hours
later, she comes back from work. She counted her change and realized
that I had given her the right change and she had $10 too much. She
brought it back and apologized to me. Even more than the fact that she
brought back the money – she apologized.
Working in fast food, I’m used to being treated like a nonentity by
most people. Very few people actually consider that the person who
makes their food actually might be something other than a low-level
GED-bearing mindless drone – when they do, it’s all I can do to not
jump on the counter and thank them just for actually being considerate.
On the whole low-level GED-bearing mindless drone train of
thought, I do have to wonder at people who treat the minimum wage
workers like they are unimportant. The world would not run without the
low-level people. People want sandwiches and gasoline and groceries and
all kinds of other stuff – without these workers, what could you
actually get done? Higher paying jobs only work when you don’t have to
actually do the low-level stuff yourself. Just seems like you ought to
treat the people that make your life easier everyday with at least a
little bit of respect – even if they happen to be retarded monkeys.
Especially if they handle your food. Do you really want spit in your
food? Because if you do…I can handle that job.
The cats appear to have fully integrated in my house. There are still
some minor spattings every now and then. A little hissy here and bit of
smacking over there – I do find many a little tuft o’ fur. But nothing
serious. I must admit, on Friday night while the fiance was gone and I
had all three in bed with me that I thought perhaps that was a bit
much. They all three were trying to pretend the others weren’t there. I
was mostly hot and unable to move. 45lbs or so of cat is very difficult
to dislodge.
Things with the fiance also proceed well. Today is actually the one
year anniversary of our first real date and first smooches. Things have
certainly been on the fast track for the past year.
I have internet again. And a new computer desk, which is very strange. And tiny! It takes up such a little bit of room.
And I have three kitties again.
They seem to be getting along too – a fact which I find amazing. There
is still some hissing and a bit of swatting but no major bloody battles.
Quit job #2. Hated it. Passionately. As in, hated it more than
Stride-Rite after only two weeks of working there. My patience with
piss-poor management and micromanaging and being bitched at for things
that I didn’t do is at an all time low. I have no patience to live with
other people being incompetent. Especially not for $6.75 an hour!
Subway pays more and I get more hours there. I find it amazing that I
enjoy working at Subway. I like the people, I like the food (mmmm,
especially the cookies…which I need to stop eating!) and I like the
hours. I am not stressed, I’m not driving so far as I did to
Stride-Rite.
I traded in my old truck for an even older Park Avenue at the garage o’
Dad. The truck, though I love it and it’s beatiful little 4 cylinder 5
speed engine, has over 211,000 miles on it and is slowly dying a sad,
sad death. Reverse was iffy, the gas mileage had dropped to less than
17 miles per gallon and the roof leak was getting worse….Sad though.
This new car is an 85…but it’s only at about 140,000 miles. Which
might make it the lowest mileage car that I’ve ever actually driven.
And the roof doesn’t leak – which means no more wet butt….
Hrmmm…
otherwise, not much of excitement is going on. Lots of sorting and
unpacking. I think I’m going to paint this weekend. And maybe drink.
But probably not both at the same time.
