  • epitome of yuck?

picking up your sandwich….taking a bite…and looking down at the spider that just JUMPED OUT THE BACKSIDE OF YOUR SANDWICH.

    blech.

Needless to say, I did not finish the sandwich. I suppose, it is highly unlikely that there was ANOTHER spider in there…but really…I didn’t want to take the chance.

    double blech.

At least it was a WHOLE spider.

  • For those of you reading the previous entries on my public humiliation for $50….these are the lyrics to the “Biorap”, of which I only had to do the chorus section. It still makes me laugh to think about it!

    Biorap

DNA Replication and Protein Synthesis with a Beat

The nucleus dissolves when it’s time to divide

Nitrogenous bases line up side by side

Sugar phosphate backbone goes along for the ride

String them all together, make a nucleotide

    A pairs with T and G pairs with C

It works ‘cause the code’s complementary

It lets you be you and me be me

From coach Jim Tressel’ to Eddie Pauline”!

    Chorus:DNA makes protein

    DNA makes protein

    DNA makes protein

    DNA makes protein

Transcription takes the bases that are found in one gene

Converts them into RNA, if you know what I mean

The bases pair up, just like they did before

But U subs for T which isn’t needed any more.

RNA leaves the nucleus, but the job isn’t done

Ribosomes roll in to join in all the fun

Three bases make a codon, count them 1,2,3

An aminoacid for each codon in the growing protein

    Chorus:DNA makes protein

    DNA makes protein

    DNA makes protein

    DNA makes protein

    Bridge:DNA makes protein never ending

    Poly, poly peptides ever rending

And save for random chance mutation

    Precisely copies each creation

DNA is the star of this fanciful tale

In the smallest mouse, in the largest whale

Determining your features to the last detail

From this cellular obsession, life on earth shall prevail.

    Chorus:DNA makes protein

    DNA makes protein

    DNA makes protein

    DNA makes protein

  • I’ve been queen of the crankies of late…what with no Eric, the weather sucking, having a roommate in general…and having PMS (it’s been a bad month for that for some reason)…on top of working what feels like all the time as well as being insanely busy…

my roommate just made me very very happy

she bought me chocolate truffles from Trader Joe’s.
if you haven’t had these. buy them. Kill people if you have to…but shit…oh god…CHOCOLATE RUSH.

Phew. Surprisingly, they make me feel a lot better. And on top of that, I’m treating myself to TACO BELL tonight. Bean burrito here I Come!

    *****

    cute new pic!

I call it “goodnight sis” or possibly “I’m going to munch on your head!”

  • Wow. I was really cranky last night. Oh well.

Things do seem better when you are less damp. Though there is still a certain amount of moistness due to wet bike seats (I swear, I haven’t had a dry bum in weeks!).

Otherwise, so begins another hump day. Not a hump-ing day sadly. But at least after today is over, there is the weekend…oh, but I’m working this weekend. Well. At least there is less traffic and I don’t have to teach on the weekends.

Let’s see. Has anything else exciting happened? Hrm. Well, I stopped work on my current cat cross-stitch. Aside from the fact that I’m stalling out on cross-stitch the stupid tree (with brown and more brown and BROWN!), I’m working on my friend’s Christmas present. I also need to sand, stencil and stain the stools I bought for my nieces. We’ll see if I decide to stencil in red or if I decide to use my woodburning tool. I’m not so good with it. But I’m not so bad either. We’ll see. We’ll see.

Argh. That’s about all that’s happening. How boring am I?
Well, there is my roommate. She’s back from California. And since then (Sunday night), I think we’ve said…wow…maybe 10 or 15 words to each other? Are we both crabby? Is it just me? Right now, I don’t really care. I’m just cranky. And wondering how long she’ll be there.

Looking at tickets to fly to Oregon, though, now that is exciting. Trying to visit my cousin who moved there recently, and possibly determine if I like the west coast enough to find a grad school there that I like. I gotta figure out when I can go (My classes are done on Dec 10 or something like that and don’t start up again until the second week of January I think?). And by which airline? Yeesh. I found tickets, from Southwest airlines for $277 (roundtrip, after taxes and all that jazz). Anyone have any idea how long it’s going to take to fly from Columbus, OH to Portland, OR? And anyone want to tell me what sites to see while I’m in Oregon? And can I take my cross-stitch on the plane? I’m guessing it’s a no on the scissors, but what about the needle?

While thinking of grad schools…does anyone have an opinion on Stanford, CA? The town, the college…whatever information? There is a gentleman there who I would love to have as an advisor. But, I’m not so sure that I am CA material…heh…or Stanford material for that matter.

  • Fuck

    Fuck me
    Fuck you
    Fuck Rain
    Fuck Ohio
    Fuck bikes
    Fuck RAIN

and also fuck broken bike lights so that you have to bike in the dark. oh and also fuck to mean people in cars who splash people on bikes. and also FUCK!!! to PMS

  • what did I did?

    well

I did the biorap in front of the bio101 class. Not alone, of course not! That would have been 500$ not 50$! It was me and 6 other TAs as well as the Professors hairy scary man of a husband. He rapped like an insane man and we TAs got the chorus of “DNA makes protein! DNA makes protein! DNA makes protein! DNA makes protein!”

High comedy, I tell you. Half the class was mortified for us, 10 or 20 even got up and left (though, none of them were my students) and the rest were just damn near howling with laughter. Think hilarity, bad bad rapping and white people with NO rhythm. It was so painful that they might actually remember that DNA makes protein.

On a side note, we will see how many people were actually in lecture yesterday by which of my students attempts to MOCK me today. It should be a hoot.

  • oh

    my

I just made an ass of myself in front of 700+ people

and I got paid $50 to do it

and, you know what? It felt good!

  • good weekend

    tired Kelly.

    No want to work tomorrow.

Yucky work. Bad work. Want to sleep in, play with kitties and cross-stitch…O! and eat CHOCOLATE! (can we tell it’s PMS week?)

  • Two fish are swimming along and they both run into a concrete wall.

One fish looks at the other fish and says: “DAM!”

  • well, I’ve finally posted a picture of my newest kitty. That there to your left is little miss Pixel. She is giving me an awfully dirty look for daring to take her photo while she is bathing (I’m a bit of a pervert, I know) but durn, she’s cute!
